Addictive Personalities

Having an addictive personality is really quite a dangerous thing most of the time.   I get excited about a certain project and simply can't get myself to unlatch from that until  it is completely done.   In this case, it is my new favorite feature on the mac that allows me to create ringtones!   I am completely in love with "garage band" which Steve showed me the basics of how to use and I got crazy with it - having a good time making my own ringtones for my glorious iPhone!  I have made three so far tonight and I bet I will have a lot more made  by the time it's all said and done. :)  I am pleased....very very pleased.  This program rocks my socks off!  I can't wait to play on it some more...tomorrow. :)

Productivity

Man, today was a great day for productivity around the house.  I awoke to stormy skies and a messy house, but go to bed with clear skies, watered lawns and fabulously clean KITCHEN and family room!  Ahhhh...this is the life.  Now if only we could keep it this way every day.  Sounds like a goal to me. ;)

What would you do?

Man...I watched a movie tonight that really tested my moral compass.  The movie: Gone Baby Gone If you haven't seen this movie, and it is on your radar to see...you may not want to read my post cause it will have some spoilers for sure.   In this movie a 4 year old is abducted - police and PI's are trying to find her.   The plot gets twisted and turned a bit (but of course - I had it mostly figured out about an hour in sigh) as they are looking for this little girl.  She has a drug addict single mommy who doesn't take very good care of her daughter - and as it turns out, has a chance for a great life with another family.  But that would require two people to "look the other way" and not return her to her family.  What would you do?   It's so easy to say, she belongs with her mother.  She is her family.  But on the other hand, this child has been given a second chance at a better life despite the means by which she was given them.  When you see the way her moth...

Fortune - Misfortune

For those who don't know, I have had my eye on a specific home that I would like for us Breen's to acquire as our own for quite some time now. I had inside intell that the home would be going into foreclosure and that very thing has almost officially happened. It is exactly the home I can see our family growing (and growing old) in - a home with a hot tub and a pool which is something that I didn't used to want, but have found that I want more and more over the last few years. A home that has 5 bedrooms and an office, which sounds like a lot until you consider that we are hoping and praying to have a 3rd child in the near future and have always used one bedroom for a TV room instead of having a TV in our main living area. A home that just happens to be directly next door to my best friend and across the ally from another friend. A home that has kitchen counter tops that I love, newer carpet, a spiral staircase and the dark cherry wood kitchen cabinets that I have alway...

Giggles with God

Do you ever have those moments? The ones where you have been praying about a certain topic and the way you see God working just makes you giggle? I had one last night. I have been praying about a certain situation, and I keep seeing *signs* that He is working on showing me an answer. Now that doesn't mean that I expect it will work out exactly the way I am praying for it to, but just seeing the way God maneuvers things in life to answer my prayers is - well, amazing and comical all at the same time. I had a moment last night where I just smiled really big, giggled out loud and said "God, you make me giggle...but I guess you know that!" We had a moment, and it felt good.

Back to Life...Back to Reality

Day 3 of bottle breaking is now underway! Addison is doing GREAT with ditching the bottles and mommy has not wavered even once. Over the weekend I started hiding the bottles away in the stuff to go in the attic as they were cleaned. On Monday morning when Addison woke up she was given a sippy cup with milk + 2oz of formula mixed in and we began "the process". There is a little less contentment at each nap and bedtime, but other than that she isn't showing any signs of missing them at all. So for 5 minutes or so I have to listen to her scream (which sometimes happened even with the bottles) and then off to lala land she goes. I am convinced now more than ever, that bottle breaking is more about breaking the parents than it is the babies. It would be so much easier for me to hold her close to me at each nap and let her suck on her bottle till she falls asleep. But I guess life isn't always about what's "easy" - it's about doing the hard thing so...

The Downtown Vegas Experience

Image
Our trip (my sister and I) to Vegas took us to uncharted territory. We stayed Downtown instead of around our usual haunt - The Strip. I was a little more than dismayed when I heard our hotel for this bachelorette party was non other than "The Golden Nugget" call me juvenile, but every time I hear this name I think of poop - golden poop nuggets! It just doesn't sound like an appealing place to stay. Plus, I have only really visited downtown one time, and while I enjoyed the "Freemont Street Experience" I left thinking the area seemed, well, old! Maybe because it is? I was unimpressed from the get go when I discovered that you walk in the doors and are greeted by STAIRS - not a ramp in sight from the front door to roll your suitcases down - not to mention what would happen if you were handicapped? I am sure there was a location somewhere that would allow for this, but it certainly wasn't at the front door. However, I am able bodied so I bounced my suitc...

Whew, I'm back!

Well folks, I'm back from Vegas! What a trip! I will post more about that in the coming days as I get caught up on sleep and get some pics uploaded from my camera. In the meantime, let me just say...WHOA! I am shocked at the changes in Addison in just the few days I was gone. I was only away from Thursday to Monday and during that time she went from crawling/walking about 50/50 to ALL WALKING! She even shed some rolls off her legs while I was away! CRAZY! Shayna made it back safe and sound from New Orleans and can't stop gushing about the trip! Very impacting and fun for the kids it sounds like. Now she is off to her dad's for 16 days and then the mad rush to get her ready for the start of school begins. She is in Cheer camp for her 8th grade squad this week and began choreography week for the competitive squad. Man...what a busy week she has ahead of her. Meanwhile, I am missing her TERRIBLY! She went to New Orleans for a week during which time I left town and the...
