Re-invention

In the past, I have moved about every 6 months to a year, this was pre-home ownership.
It was such a thrill to go on a hunt for a great new apartment or house. You could find new uses for your furniture, new ways to arrange it - everything was just fresh and fun and CLEAN.
I loved it...all except the actual physical move itself. The packing and unpacking never even bothered me. It was a great time to weed things out and find things I had forgotten I had.

Over the last few months, we had contemplated a new home purchase - but circumstances being what they are in our economy these days - we have concluded that having TWO mortgages (cause they don't accept contingencies on the home we were interested in) may not be the best idea. Not to mention that it is a horrible time for putting our current home on the market if we want to get a good price for it.

Once the decision was made to stay put, I have been invigorated and full of ideas of things I want to do to "re-invent" our current living space. Everytime we do this I get so excited. Having lived here for 5 years now - this is a record for me - I am just feeling that crunch...that need for the strange or the different. Completely at my wonderful husbands suggestion - we went to Ikea today and bought a new unit for our main room and are moving the TV and media paraphernalia out of our 4th bedroom which was acting as a media room, and putting it downstairs! I am very excited about this! As a bonus, adding this one piece of furniture has prompted a move of the smaller fish aquarium, a flip flop of our leather sofas, loveseat and chair (furniture from the front living room to the main living room and vice versa). We are then putting a bed, the audio system and turn table, as well as a small desk into the fourth bedroom to make it a guest room/music room/home office in case Steve is ever able to work from home on occasion.

Needless to say, our house is a complete WRECK right now since everything has to be moved from one spot to another. The audio stuff can't be moved until the TV is moved, and the TV can't be moved until the entertainment center is put together, and the fish tank had to be moved (when meant the audio stuff had to be displaced) in order to put the entertainment center together. Whew...what a mess. But I am so elated to see the finished product!
Reinvention of our space is something I absolutely thrive on - it keeps me content with where I am instead of lusting after new places to be. Hmmm....that sounds like a whole ton of therapy sessions if you ask me - but it is who I am and have been for quite some time.

As a side note: Perhaps I need to learn a lesson from Addison's Dr. Suess videos - "Be happy with what you have, because if you are happy with what you have, then what you have will make you happy!" That is what we are doing with the restructuring of our home, right? I love it! Must be a subconscious thing that I am learning from watching this video so stinkin' often lol

Having grown up in a military family that moved every two years (or more) - Dan can TOTALLY RELATE. We have been here almost six years and he has gone nutso several times. Thankfully, he had work stuff which caused enough change and upheaval to keep him busy most of the time (plus our addition to the house which was chaos for everyone) but he's back to pacing. I should get him to rearrange something in the house to keep him busy for awhile. :D
