Tall tales...and other poop related news

Addison, as it turns out, has a great imagination (either that or there is some television show or movie that she has watched recently that I have no idea about). Beginning last Friday we potty trained Addison (hallelujah for fast learners). She has done SO well and caught on in only a day! The funniest part of the whole thing though is how Addison has made up this whole scenario to help her with the pooping thing. I think it was either Sunday or Monday night that she was sitting on the potty going poop, and I was gathering the clothes for her to get dressed for bed. She started hollering, "Mom, Mom! There is a dinosaur!" "A dinosaur?" I replied enthusiastically! "Wow! Where is the dinosaur?" "It's in the potty! Look!!! Look!!" So I looked, and right as I was looking she looked too and then looked at me and said, "Well, actually it's a lizard." It was very matter of fact, and very Addisonesque with the sideways cock of...

Halloween 2009

Image
It was such a pleasure to have my parents be able to join us for the Halloween festivities. We don't do a lot around here to celebrate...but we do take the girls (well, okay only one girl now cause Shayna is getting to old to want to trick or treat with us anymore ;()) to trick or treat around the neighborhood and then we stay at the house to pass out candy to all of the neighborhood kids. It's a good time (and it allows me to get rid of all the candy we don't want from the previous trick or treating since we go a little on the early side haha) we regift some of our candies. ;) This year was Addison's first year to trick or treat - I figure it seemed silly to take her last year since she wasn't allowed to eat any of it and couldn't really ask for it nor give a thank you when receiving it. This year she was all kinds of into it though! She said trick or treat at every door and happily took whatever and however much candy they would allow her to have! Then she s...

Do you like fruit snacks?

Addison cracks us up DAILY! She is always dancing around and saying things funny - like wrinkling her nose and wiggling while she says stuff. For instance...when she would really like for you to give her a pack of "fruit snacks" she will come up to you with a gleam in her eye and say "Do you like fruit snacks?" in her own little cute lispy way and with a wrinkled nose doing a little jig and head tilted just a bit. It's really hard not to just laugh at her. Most of the time we respond that YES..we love fruit snacks...does she? and she will respond back... YAY! Let's get them! haha such a character. Well for the last 6 months or so I have been trying to get her in her natural element saying this, just so we can have it for when she grows up...maybe to play it at her wedding or something..haha...who knows ;) She is pretty much always uncooperative once the camera comes out and will not repeat her question/request. So this time...I told her I would give h...

Fall visit to Aroboretum

Image
Addison and I had a great visit to the Arboretum with Ashely and her kids Grayson and Presley. I think we did more picture taking than we did playing this time...but it was a fun day and the weather was beautiful! I am looking forward to going again soon!

Pumpkin Patch

Image
It has become something of a tradition to go to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch during the month of October....at least once...typically 2-3 times. We love it out there! They have pumpkins a plenty, tons of character cut outs put up for the younger crowd, a "hay maze" with a slide at the end, a HUGE turtle, couple of pigs, and a horse. They even have a hay ride pulled by a tractor and a pumpkin house, as well as several bounce houses. All of this is FREE! There are picnic tables set up so that you can bring a lunch with you and enjoy sitting down to eat with your kiddos. Then there is my personal favorite part. If you knock on the door of the house and request jelly's they will sell you homemade jelly's and jams that are out of this world! I was very sad that I did not get any this year. I will have to go back for their Christmas tree set up and buy some then. :D Anyway, we had a great, but short visit there this year and unfortunately never made it back. :( ...

My Angel

So many memories are beginning to surface for me as we watch and experience High School all over again as seen through the eyes of my precious first born child. I wasn't a real part of any of the "popular" crowds when I was in High School. I was a theatre junkie and a "jacket slave" errr... I mean Jacket Babe. ;) (those who went to school in Rockwall will totally know what I mean). That is to say I was on the drill team in 9th grade. I chose to focus on theatre after that. Theatre was pretty much all that mattered to me back then. I never had a high school sweetheart...I never really got excited about anything in High school...I just did my thing to get out of there as fast as possible. I think I thought that I was older than I was. Maybe I felt I was too good for all that teenagery stuff. I dunno, what I do know is that I had some fun times, but for the most part I was just ready to be out of school and move on with life. Shayna is quite the opposite...

Locked out!

Addison and I had a very unique experience this week. Shayna left a day early for a trip with her dad and fam and Addison and I were here at the house alone ... it was 5:15 on Thursday and I was making Orange Marmalade Beef Filet Mignon with Corn on the cob and potatoes. The corn and filets needed to be grilled, so I head out back to light the grill and get started. Addison and I had a short interaction at the door because she wanted to "go outside with you" ... now, when Addison goes outside a series of playtime begins. First she wants bubbles...then she wants to bounce (on the trampoline) ... then she decides it is time to go down the slide, and after about a hundred times up the ladder and down the slide, she decides it is time to swing. Ever since she learned how to swing "like a big girl" (ie: not in the baby swing) she pretty much doesn't want out of the swing once she is in it (unless it is to slide or bounce again). Sooo...in an effort to speed din...

Emma comes for a visit

Image
We had a wonderful visit with Greg and Emma recently. Sadly Cari couldn't make it, but since she was on a vacay with some friends I'm sure she was having her own brand of fun! Here is a video and some fun pics of the girls on the trampoline. I was very happy to get the "attitude" Addison has been showing lately on film - everything is MY TURN and then she will turn on mega charm when she says "please!" lol. We are having to learn not to laugh when she does this...but man, she is just so cute it's hard not to! Emma was a great little sidekick for me throughout the day. We played with Addison, fed the fish, she watched/helped as I cleaned out both tanks and changed the water and she rode with me to drop Shayna off at her cousin Haven's house for the night. We jumped on the trampoline and played on the swing set. She's an awesome young lady and we enjoyed having her company for the day. Oh yeah...we enjoyed Greg too. ;)

Gifts for Addison

Some cute pics of Addison with her new gifts from our trip to San Diego...we couldn't help ourselves, we just kept finding stuff to bring home to her. :) Isn't that dress gorgeous!?! Shayna found that at a booth in Old Town!

Day #4 - Monday

Image
Today was dedicated to BEACH TIME! We have been in this gorgeous beach city, yet not donned our swimsuits yet for a day of fun in the sun with WATER! So we decided to wrap up the trip by throwing together a beach bag and heading out on the Ferry to Coronado Island! I have to be honest, I am not really the kind of girl who likes to lay out and get a lot of sun...so I was a little worried that I would be very bored and ready to go do something else rather quickly. But this was a day that was all about Shayna. She had only one request for our trip itinerary and it was that we get some lay out/beach time. Sooo...off to the beach we went. We hopped off the ferry and made a very long but cool trek (cool because there were neat homes/condos/apartments all along the way) down to the Hotel Del Coronado on the opposite end of the island. We went into a few of the shops while we were on our way there and decided this would be a great place to buy a few souvenir gifts before we left. Once we ...

Day #3 - Sunday

Image
Keely, John and Josh *John's son who joined us for the day post hike* We woke up this morning...Day #3 in San Diego preparing for a hike in Torrey Pines. Shayna and I dressed accordingly and were picked up by Keely and John who came bearing Bagels and OJ. Yummo! While hiking is not necessarily my thing (man, I really need to get in better shape) I did enjoy this time and enjoyed the views. This is obviously a very popular spot cause it was uber busy for a hiking area. We didn't get to do all that we had intended to do on this hike - had a little change in plans - but we had a great time while we were there and could tell that there were a lot of really great viewing spots that we will just have to go see next time we go there. From Torrey Pines we went to Old Town .. this was a really awesome little area. It felt a lot like being in Mexico with great little Mexican restaurants and shops. It must have been one of the first areas populated around the area cause it is home ...
