Cereal baby
I have been a HUGE fan of cereal my whole life. In fact, some of my fondest memories stem around my love of cereal.
A silly and rather ridiculous memory involving cereal is one of sibling rivalry. My sweet little sister Debi and I used to sit at the breakfast table and would actually FIGHT over who had more sugar in their cereal. If she got up to get something, I would quickly sneak another teaspoon of sugar in my cereal bowl, and she would do the same if I got up. We must have been the most sugared up cereal eating kids on the planet. I'm really not joking when I say that sometimes my cereal wouldn't even taste all that good cause I had "one up'd" her a few too many times and my cereal was more sugar than cereal.
Another of my favorite memories involving cereal is of my Grandpa Null - he was always quite the jokester. I have vivid memories of sitting at the breakfast table one morning on a visit to my Grandparent's home and having him tease me mercilessly about the fact that every time my elbow bent my mouth would fly open for a bite of cereal. I tried SOOOOO hard to take a freaking bite of cereal without bending my elbow for the remainder of that trip. Somehow, it never worked out for me. lol.
Another great memory involving cereal and my life is when I first moved away from home. I was moving in with a boyfriend (not something my parents were real happy about) - but I will never forget that my mom gave us (well, really my boyfriend I guess) a HUGE glass canister with a brown wooden lid on it. She instructed him that it was now his job to keep that full of cereal for me so I always had my cereal. At the time, it seemed trivial, just one of those things that silly moms do. Now, I look back and see that moment with a completely different perspective. Mom was letting go of her daughter, letting her do her thing....live her life, even though it wasn't the life she was hoping for her daughter. She did it with a sort of grace that I will never forget. I see that moment now as a "take care of my daughter" moment that only a mom would understand for what that was. I love you mom! Thanks for making sure I always had my cereal! :)
Well, many years and a few boyfriends later, I married a man that also is a great lover of cereal. In fact, he may be more of a cereal lover than I am! Crazy talk - I know! Fast forward almost 7 years into our marriage - and we have a 21 month old daughter that has developed quite a taste for the finer things in life. She LOVES her "faffles" (translated: waffles) and her CEREAL! She was always "okay" with cereal - and sorta liked it. But a few weeks ago, I put some cheerios in a bowl and added a little milk to them for her. SHE LOVED IT! By the end she had the bowl up to her mouth and was drinking the extra milk and cheerios out of it just like I STILL do! :)
