Come Apart!
In times of stress - or depression - or anxiety - I have a tendency to do some pretty crazy stuff. Not crazy in the sense of throwing things or punching walls - but crazy in the sense of latching on to some big project and just "going crazy!"
Not done pulling all the linoleum out of this part of the room yet
Towels put down so we can walk through the room without getting nasty feet - the amount of dust found under carpet and padding is unbelievably disgusting!
Well, yesterday was THE DAY for crazy to strike again. I have been going through some pretty emotionally taxing stuff over the last few weeks. Lots of "thought work" going on...and all of this on the heels of me being really sick for the last two months (thank goodness I am starting to feel better physically than I have in a long time as of this week!)
I know of no better way to get through this "crazy time" and get the thoughts processed that need to be processed than to grab a hold of a project with every fiber of my being and just immerse myself. Usually - I think it out pretty well then dive in. Yesterday however, proved to be quite the exception to that rule. I came home from an appointment, put Addison down for a nap - and without even really thinking about what I was doing I walked into the garage, found a few necessary tools....walked straight into our master bathroom and just started RIPPING THE CARPET OFF THE FLOOR and the linoleum out of the toilet area!
Now, let me just say - while I had no idea five minutes before I started this project that I was going to do this, I have hated the fact that the master bathroom has carpet since the day we moved into this house. Why in the world would any builder put CARPET in a BATHROOM! That is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of! I hated it even more when I dropped makeup on it a short time later - and then lipstick another time - and then one day hair color! The carpet was just an eye sore every time I walked into that room and it was time to do something about it!
So I walked in and just started ripping! I ripped and cut and pulled nails and wood out of the concrete for over an hour before Addison woke up and my project was halted for the day.
I intend to work on it a lot more tomorrow afternoon and over the weekend! I can't wait!
The plan is for a stained concrete floor that is polished and has some sort of design in the middle of it - though I am not yet sure what that design will be. Let the research and the fun begin!
Here are a few pics of the mess I left behind after my probably irrational moment of wild ripping apart of bathroom floor. :) But it will be a moment of crazy that will hopefully pay off when we have an amazing new non-carpeted bathroom floor and some great new baseboards. Who knows - I may even get totally insane and paint some cabinets or retile the shower/tub area. hahaha (Steve - are you scared yet?) ;)
Oh - and did I mention how much better I felt after that hour and a half of ripping stuff up and sweating! It was AWESOME!

get several gallons of that concrete etcher--works wonders on the paint overspray, plaster, and whatever else ended up on the concrete when they built.
i did this to a room last week, wearing rubber gloves, and spread the etcher with a watering can (worked really well!) the remaining thick paint at the edges came up easily with a razor blade while still damp from the etcher.
good luck! can't want to see what you end up with! :)
I just LOVE projects though! :)
