Slip and Slide
I used to love playing on the slip and slide when I was little. Throw on the swimsuit, run and jump with abandon onto the slide while water sprays all around you! Sooooo much fun! Unfortunately, I discovered yesterday that slip and slide is not near as much fun as an adult, and even less fun when the slide is your driveway instead of a long yellow piece of vinyl sitting in grass.
Yesterday was a "snow day" which in Texas translates to, there was a little bit of ice on the roads and those of us who live in Texas have no clue how to drive on ice, so the schools and local businesses all shut down for the day.
It was great, Shayna got to stay home from school - Steve worked from home instead of driving in to the office - and Addison and I had our normal day except that I do not go anywhere on bad weather days so we had plans, plans to have no plans.
Around 11:00 I remembered that it was also trash and recycle pick up day....and our bins were not at the curb.
I considered interrupting Steve and asking him to take them out, but decided against being a wuss and did it myself.
I rolled both bins out to their spots, and then took a bag of trash out to the bin. The sun was out and the ice had turned to water running off into the ally, so even though it was cold it was not bad. Ummmm....nyeah...that was until I stepped on one of those "wet spots" that turnd out to actually be a patch of ice! My feet both flew out from under me - the trash bag I was holding went flying and I landed flat on my rear end (thank goodness for the little bit of extra padding I have accumulated lately). The problem came in that I instinctively tried to catch myself and landed hard on my right wrist.
My first reaction (after the cuss words flew out of my mouth) was one of vanity - stand up as quickly as possible and look around to see if anyone saw me! *whew* I think my spill went unwitnessed! When I got back inside though I realized that my wrist was hurting - and then it got worse....and worse. Four hours, 3 advil, and two tylenols later I couldn't even push a button on the remote control without squealing (yes, I am a wimp and bad with pain so it's probably not as bad as it sounds).
Sooo, tomorrow I'm headed to my doctor, who was kind enough to call in an RX of vicodin for me (dude, this actually helped - I couldn't even type till I took this and some advil) to get an xray and see if it's a fracture or if I'm an even bigger wuss than I thought. Probably the latter - but for real, it hurts man, so whatever it is, I will be glad to have it stop hurting!!!
I think I will stick to the yellow vinyl slip and slides in the future...driveways are not so much fun.
