Dallas
I decided a while back to watch Dallas - the TV show all the way through every season (seeing as I'm always still wide awake when Steve is already snoring). I remember the show being on in our home from time to time when I was a young girl. Mostly because I remember the whole "who shot JR?" craze.
It's kind of funny to me that I've lived in Dallas almost my whole life - and yet never really watched this show. I have visited Southfork Rank twice, toured the property and the home each time - and yet not seen the show. I lived in Rockwall during my high school years - only a few minutes from the Ranch by back roads. I now live in Allen which is again, only minutes from the ranch. It seemed kinda weird to me to be so close to such a landmark spot and yet not have ever seen the show that placed this area on the map! So I decided I should watch it...see this historic show for myself. Compare my viewings of the ranch and home to the way it was presented to the world.
I am only on the 7th episode of the first season and I just can't keep from laughing each time I watch. This show was once considered to be one of the hottest shows on television. Seriously? The acting is horrid and the script writing certainly didn't help! I'm guessing it must have gotten better as time passed? Man...I hope so cause otherwise I'm not real sure I can get through them all! Regardless of if it gets better or not - I will still always get a giggle out of the fact that they crammed that many people into that home! It's hilarious to think that two grown men, their wives, their niece and their mother and father ALL lived under a roof that is - in reality - about the same size as most middle class one family homes in Texas. Certainly not a place fit for a family that is purported to be as wealthy as the famous Ewing family!
But hey, the episodes I am watching were filmed in the late 70's - and it was meant to be a night time soap opera. So I guess I should quit analyzing and just enjoy my giggles and enjoy seeing the area I live near as it appeared on TV.
This show made Dallas a household name all over the world. Gotta be something to it!

Dallas never caught my fancy. Mostly I found it irritating and every time I saw Larry Hagman I thought of him as Captain Tony Nelson, not "JR Ewing". Heh.
