Twilight
I just returned from a fabulous girls night with Stephanie and her mom (otherwise known as my second mom). We had an awesome time. We started off our evening by having dinner and margaritas at Cristina's at Firewheel and then went to line up for Twilight. It surprised me actually because I expected very long lines at an early time. That didn't really happen. We got there just a little over an hour early and were the 7-9th people in the line. This was great because we had PRIMO seats for what was almost a sell out show. I guess I just expected the line would be longer, faster. Kinda like a Harry Potter flick since that was what this was being compared to in terms of hype.
Anyway, as for the movie. Well, I won't give away anything because I certainly don't want to spoil anything in case some have not read the book yet. What I will say is that casting was GREAT for Bella, GREAT for Charlie, & SUPERB for Alice. The others were mostly just so-so for me w/ a few exceptions. I really was not all that terribly impressed with Edward most of the time :( - mostly I think because they SEVERELY overdid his makeup. I thought that they could have done a much better job casting the rolls of Carlisle and Rosalynn (I can't remember how they spell her name). Oh, and umm...Jacob....hmmm...nyeah...I'm gonna have to say they got the casting wrong on him too.
I also thought that, especially in the beginning the lighting was funky and the lines were often just "delivered" and not especially well - particularly between Edward and Bella. Maybe it was a lack of that Brangelina type chemistry that I was hoping for that left me feeling a little less than satisfied - I dunno. I guess I just wanted to feel the longing and the tension between them from second one...and I didn't.
Lastly, the movie felt a little rushed for me. I know it was two hours - and maybe that seems like a long time for some movies. But this particular one needed time for us to see relationships grow and then build - instead it was more like they tried to fit as much in as they could into the two hours, so it just felt a little hurried and slightly lacking.
Now, I know that this sounds like I very much did not like the movie. But I really did like it...quite a bit actually. I would not go so far as to say it was a fav though. Just a good movie - that followed a great book. I think too that I am sometimes a bit hard on films and theatre. A little too critical of every little thing - because I can be. So perhaps that is all it is.
I suggest that you go see it for yourself if you haven't already. I'd love to know what everyone else thinks. :)
I HIGHLY recommend that you read the books in this series right away! They are awesome and very well worth your time.
For me, tonight was less about the movie, and more about the company when all was said and done. I had such a blast getting to spend time with Steph and Mom R. without little kiddos in tow. We have a lot of history us three ladies. It was great to get to share margaritas and stories and the great experience of seeing Twilight for the first time with those two wonderful chicas!

i went to see Twilight yesterday morning with my two galpals, and really enjoyed it. i was anticipating that it would be entirely awful or just laughably cheesy, and while it had those moments, i was surprised that it had a lot of genuinely good moments--Bella leaving Charlie was pretty amazing (you're right--they were by far the best casting choices).
Carlisle--what was up with his makeup? and Jasper was CRAZY looking--and despite this, when the Cullens walked into the high school the first time, they didn't seem very different or vampiric like in the book. meh.
i actually liked Jacob--well, minus the atrocious hair extensions they put on him (ack!)--wonder how they will beef him up for the next movie?
i really, really liked the first third of the movie, and enjoyed the rest. i might even want to own it eventually, but i think i'll wait for it to go on sale, y'know? :)
but i think the most fun part is going to see it with some of your gals. :D
